Teeth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discolored tooth enamel. It works by opening the pores of your teeth in order to draw out staining. Once the pores of your teeth are opened, the active ingredient works to oxidize stains and neutralize them. Over 95% of people treated achieve some level of teeth whitening. Dental crowns, bridges and veneers cannot be whitened - only natural teeth.
For both options listed below, you are welcome to come in for a consultation with one of our doctors to discuss which might be a better fit for you.
In Office Whitening:
We offer an option for in office whitening as a partner with SMYLE xo.
SMYLE xo offers the option to get a head start on your whitening or spruce up for an event.
To achieve maximum results quickly, SMYLE xo uses a concentration of 44% carbamide peroxide; This keeps your tooth structure intact, while also considering possible sensitivity issues. Typical results are 2-8 shades whiter in one session. After a whitening, you should avoid staining foods for the next 12-24 hours, until your enamel seals completely. If you consume something that can stain your teeth, you run the risk of your teeth re-absorbing stains you just eliminated. It is important to note that results of an in office whitening will fade relatively quickly without upkeep. Patients who choose this option often opt to do it in combination with purchase of an at home whitening kit so that they can continue to keep up their desired shade at home, as needed. It is also important to note that we recommend a patient have a dental cleaning within a few days prior to their whitening session to achieve maximum results.
